The New Ubar

When I arrived at the Main Fires there was a different man upon Grays. Ba'atar has left Ayguili as Ubar. I believe it was a good choice .. it is Ayguili who has spent the most time around the fires of all the Oralu. I think it is Ayguili who will have the best idea of the people's voice. What he will do with it has yet to be seen .. his mettle to be tested as all Ubars are.

I never did like sitting on the Grays .. I always kept my favored place near the fire. Irreverent Cursed Son .. am I.

The evening was started with a hot cut from a roast .. tossed between my hands as I listened to Ayguili tell Cana he wished her to continue her responsibilities. The ones she took as Ubara. He had no desire to count barrels of salts and sugars. I could not blame him. I would have done the same thing in the circumstance.

After some good natured teasing around the fires Ayguili got right to it .. starting out by speaking of Silken's duties as Healer. I agreed to his words .. nodding even. It was something I felt needed to have been done a long time ago .. for as Ayguili said ... every person needs to feel useful.

Ayguili continued by making Yamka an official member of the First Fires. No longer to be considered a prospect. Ayguili was feeling the position and making some changes that I began to suspect had been in his mind for longer than a couple of days. Things that he must have felt an opinion about but had no authority to speak them into existence.

He did now .. and he sure was.

I was pleased. I had been concerned that Ayguili would not step out of his brother's shadow. Perhaps even afraid that Ba'atar would be displeased and hold him responsible for anything done out of Ba'atar's obvious wishes. But Ayguili was stepping into his own .. these were obviously Ayguili's words and not Ba'atar's. These were things that Ayguili felt needed to be addressed and given the opportunity he set his will and word to them to be done.
